Secondary 2 SMART: Oxidation and Aging Process

Secondary 2 students enjoyed the experiment in their SMART class. They learned about how the oxygen in the air around us causes a chemical reaction known as oxidation and they explored how to apply it in food preservation using materials easily found at their home.

They also learned the water clearing trick through the Kitchen Chemistry Experiment: Oxidation and Aging process. They used apples as the primary material to age and to preserve together with other materials easily found in kitchen. The result was really satisfying as they are able to age some of the apples making it sweeter and the other batch is preserved making it fresh for a definite duration.
