St. Gabriel Building – EP Secondary 1 students participated actively in the High rate for Good Proportion and Rotation activity planned by Mr. Tieme Willems, September 25, 2020.
The learning outcomes of the activity is to find rate, ratio and its relationship with rotation. Students will have an understanding of the meaning of ratio and rotation. Also, the relationship between both.
Students analyzed the gear on the bikes. They counted the teeth on each gear and formed their own ratios. They compared the ratios of different gears as well.
Later they calculated the gear teeth ratio by dividing the output speed by the input speed or by dividing the number of teeth of the driving gear by the number of teeth of the driven gear. Finally, the students tested the bikes and explained the feeling on the bike and related it to the ratio and amount of rotations the gears would make.
