EP Secondary 2 SMART: Cardio is Hardio!

Secondary 2 students had the Cardio is Hardio! activities. The first one is they were asked to differentiate between heart rate, heartbeat, pulse and blood pressure. Students were asked to calculate their pulse at rest and compare it to their pulse after doing some exercise. Students were then introduced to systolic and diastolic blood pressure and what each means. Students were then asked to do research and answer questions based on blood pressure.

The second one is students had to measure their fellow classmates blood pressure at rest and after exercise. Students had to learn how to use a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope to determine and measure blood pressure. This included measuring systolic and diastolic blood pressure and interpreting these values. Students were separated into small groups and each group was given the correct instruments. They were provided with a worksheet which they used to collect blood pressure data.
